About

Business owners call me when they need order, when there is no room for hesitation and no fear of taking full ownership. In practice, I turn vague goals like “improve efficiency” or “grow revenue” into concrete initiatives, then break them down into priorities, dependencies, and a delivery roadmap. I arrive to spend time aligning different teams on what to build or change, defining how processes and systems should work together, and making sure strategic decisions can actually be implemented in real projects.

Selected Outcomes

Shipping turnaround at a global art-logistics company

Leonid Afremov LTD · 2016 – 2017 · Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Problem A four-month shipping backlog where every customer order was overdue and untraceable. 100–150 originals per day kept entering a pipeline no one could see into.
Move Diagnosed the root cause as visibility, not capacity. Built a custom order-monitoring database from scratch to track and visually surface the state of every shipment end to end.
Result Dispatch dropped from 4 months to 3 weeks — effectively the irreducible floor: the time it takes to paint and pack a Leonid Afremov original. Volume held at 100–150 orders/day throughout the fix.

Audit that turned into a 6-month turnaround

Travel Service Mexico · 2018 – 2020 · Executive Director

Problem The Dominican Republic head office needed a verdict on the Mexico branch — shut it down, or prove it could stand on its own.
Move The owners hand-picked me, on the strength of years of personal trust, to fly in and rule on it. I converted the audit mandate into an active restructuring program: licenses, contracts, accounting, owner-facing reporting.
Result Every restructuring goal completed in 6 months against a 12-month target. Modernized internal communications and renegotiated provider agreements to materially better terms.

New destination launched from zero, under pressure

Travel Service Mexico · 2011 – 2013 · Head of Operations (Market Launch)

Problem The owners needed a brand-new regional destination opened — fast, with high commercial stakes, by someone they could trust completely on the ground.
Move Relocated from the Dominican Republic operation to stand up the new branch end to end. Built every transport and excursion system from scratch and signed key suppliers across the full price spectrum — from standard transport to yachts, helicopters, and armored vehicles for VIP service.
Result A fast-scaling operation handling a growing volume of international tourists — and the foundation of personal trust that the owners would draw on years later when they sent me to audit the same branch as Executive Director.

Direct headhunt after a partner shutdown

SCAILIUM (formerly SQream) · 2024 – present · Contract

Problem SCAILIUM's contract with Alar Studios had ended and Alar shut down. They needed someone who already knew their GPU-database platform deeply enough to keep validation moving without a rebuild.
Move SCAILIUM tracked me down and contracted me directly, based on the year I had been their lead QA inside Alar's delivery on the same product.
Result A trust-based engagement, signed personally rather than through a procurement process — evidence that on this work, the relationship is identified with the person, not the firm.

Leadership & Operations

2008 – present

Delivery Manager

Alar Studios · Full-time

Mar 2024 – Sep 2024 · 7 mos Budva, Montenegro · On-site

The leadership outcome of a three-year internal climb at Alar Studios — from Data Engineer through DevOps and QA (those roles appear under Engineering & Data). Promoted to run the dedicated department that worked exclusively with the SQream client.

  • Took the SQream-dedicated department. Cross-functional team of developers and QA engineers focused exclusively on the SQream client engagement.
  • End-to-end ownership. Test planning, development oversight, release, and direct reporting to business owners; recreated complex client environments to validate stability under extreme real-world load.
  • Built the team. Directed hiring and onboarding for both developers and testers, evaluating candidates against the bar the SQream engagement required.

Executive Director

Travel Service Mexico · Full-time

Dec 2018 – Jan 2020 · 1 yr 2 mos Mexico

  • Called back to rule on the branch. The Dominican Republic head office sent me into the Mexico operation personally — based on years of earned trust — with a clear mandate: audit it, then decide whether to shut it down or prove it could stand on its own.
  • The audit became a turnaround. Completed every restructuring goal in 6 months against a 12-month target — license renewals, contract renegotiations, accounting rebuilt from scratch, transparent reporting flowing back to the owners.
  • Modernized the operation. Slack for internal communications; renegotiated every provider agreement to materially better commercial terms.

Official Satellite Internet Distributor

StarGo Mexico · Self-employed

Sep 2017 – Nov 2018 · 1 yr 3 mos Quintana Roo, Mexico

  • Owned the entire customer relationship. Discovered the need, built the trust, signed the contract, performed the install, maintained the connection — all five touchpoints, one person.
  • Full-cycle sales and field operations. Client acquisition for satellite internet services across Quintana Roo, including logistical scheduling of every install and service visit.
  • Built the back office. Designed and implemented a custom FileMaker document-management system to automate the internal workflows the business depended on.

Head of Shipping Department

Leonid Afremov LTD · Full-time

Nov 2016 – Aug 2017 · 10 mos Playa del Carmen, Mexico

  • Diagnosed the real problem. Inherited a shipping backlog where customer delays had reached four months. The root cause wasn't capacity — it was visibility. No one could see the state of any order at any moment.
  • Built the monitoring system. Created a custom order-management database from scratch to track and visually monitor every shipment end-to-end, replacing the failing manual processes that had let the backlog form.
  • Dropped delays from 4 months to 3 weeks. Effectively the irreducible floor — the time it takes to paint and pack a Leonid Afremov original. Volume during the fix: 100–150 orders per day.
  • Personally handled the highest-value shipments — complex international orders where premium service quality mattered most.

Technical Director

TCMS Group · Full-time

Jan 2014 – Oct 2015 · 1 yr 10 mos Mexico

  • Spotted the visibility gap. The company was running cross-border medical operations across Mexico and the Dominican Republic without a unified view of cases, payments, reports, or document flow — everything lived on paper and in scattered files.
  • Built the CRM that fixed it. Designed and implemented a FileMaker-based system from scratch that centralized case tracking, payments, instant PDF report generation, and document flow for both countries on a single source of truth.
  • Held the human side at the same time. Coordinated communication between international clients and healthcare providers in emergency situations, on top of the system work.

Head of Operations (Market Launch)

Travel Service Mexico · Full-time

Sep 2011 – Jul 2013 · 1 yr 11 mos Mexico

  • Hand-picked to relocate and launch. The owners chose me, from the Dominican Republic operation, to fly into Mexico and stand up a brand-new regional destination from zero — a transfer of trust under real commercial stakes and high pressure.
  • Built every system from scratch. Transport and excursion logistics across the new branch; signed key suppliers across the full price spectrum — standard transport, yachts, helicopters, armored vehicles for VIPs.
  • Scaled the launch into a real operation handling a fast-growing volume of international tourists before handing the matured branch off.

Head of Operations

Travel Service Dominicana · Full-time

Feb 2008 – Aug 2011 · 3 yrs 7 mos La Altagracia, Dominican Republic

  • National-scale operations. Directed booking, excursion scheduling, and end-to-end airport–hotel transfer logistics across the country's tourist flow.
  • Replaced Excel with a real database. Spearheaded the transition from MS Excel to a custom-built FileMaker database that automated guest tracking — hotels, excursions, arrivals and departures — for the entire national tourist flow.
  • The foundation that made the Mexico launch possible. The digital and operational discipline established here is what the owners would draw on two years later when they sent me to open the new market.

Engineering & Data

2020 – present

Quality Assurance Engineer / Data Science Engineer

SCAILIUM (formerly SQream) · Contract

Dec 2024 – Apr 2026 · 1 yr 5 mos Israel · Remote

  • Sought out and signed directly. When SCAILIUM's contract with Alar Studios ended and Alar shut down, SCAILIUM tracked me down and contracted me personally — the trust they placed was built during the year I had been their lead QA on the GPU-database project, not on any introduction.
  • Rare dual background put to work. Bring both Quality Assurance and Data Science to validate their high-performance SaaS GPU-database end-to-end: SQL engine, APIs, and ML/Data Science platforms at massive scale.
  • ML inside the database. Lead validation and integration of custom Machine Learning models embedded directly in the database ecosystem; maintain complex backend and database test suites in Python and PyTest within their proprietary framework, in TDD partnership with the dev team.

ML and NLP Data Scientist

FindDataLab – Web Scraping Service (Concurrent Engagement) · Full-time

Dec 2022 – Jan 2025 · 2 yrs 2 mos Serbia · Remote

  • Bridge between business and engineering. Sat with clients, translated raw business ideas into concrete delivery briefs for the engineering team, then shipped finished, high-quality products against those briefs.
  • Range of delivered products. NLP-based de-duplication of a massive Spanish-language database (NLTK, scikit-learn, SQLAlchemy); automated trends-extraction system for a major Australian media holding (spaCy, scikit-learn); personalized medication recommendation system for a healthcare institution (TensorFlow, Keras, spaCy).
  • LLM and predictive work. Designed a ChatGPT-based assistant with RAG over Weaviate to extract answers from PDF documents; built a high-performance horse-race prediction model using CatBoost on data scraped via lxml.

SRE (Site Reliability Engineer)

Qligent Corp. (Parallel Engagement) · Full-time

Sep 2024 – Dec 2024 · 4 mos Bar, Montenegro · Remote

  • High-availability media infrastructure. Managed Kubernetes and Apache Kafka in production supporting media monitoring systems, as a parallel full-time engagement.
  • Cleared probation, continued in the role. Position ended due to a strategic company downsizing and a freeze on the planned expansion department.

Alar Studios

Full-time · 2 yrs 8 mos

Jul 2021 – Feb 2024 Budva, Montenegro · On-site

Joined as a Data Engineer in 2021 and worked through three technical roles in two and a half years. Each opening was a seat no one else was ready to take — I stepped in with a Master's in Electronic Engineering (rather than Computer Science) and sometimes without the textbook experience for the role, and delivered each time. The leadership role that followed (Delivery Manager, 2024) appears under Leadership & Operations.

Quality Assurance Engineer (SQream GPU Database Project)

Jan 2023 – Feb 2024 · 1 yr 2 mos

  • Selected to lead testing on SQream — an RDBMS that runs on NVIDIA GPUs for big-data analytics — a product requiring extreme accuracy on massive datasets.
  • Full testing surface. Manual, automated, regression and stress testing of fundamental algorithms; automation in Python, SQL, and Bash to validate GPU-accelerated computing.

DevOps Engineer

Mar 2022 – Dec 2022 · 10 mos

  • Owned staging-environment maintenance, monitoring, and support on AWS (EC2, S3, EKS), Kubernetes, and Docker.
  • Infrastructure as Code and pipelines. Standardized environment deployments with Ansible and CloudFormation; optimized delivery pipelines with Jenkins; established comprehensive monitoring with Zabbix.

Data Engineer

Jul 2021 – Feb 2022 · 8 mos

  • Joined as a Data Engineer on a B2B mental-health web application serving over 5 million users.
  • PostgreSQL at scale. Design optimization, migration, and refactoring of complex SQL functions; engineered reporting systems and improved data integrity to support critical application features.

Data Scientist (Career Transition)

Self-employed

Jun 2020 – Feb 2021 · 9 mos Cancún, Quintana Roo, Mexico · Remote

  • Read the market and moved. COVID was breaking the in-person businesses I had been running while remote work was the only thing still alive. Made a deliberate decision to re-skill into IT to stay in the market — and stay relevant for the next decade.
  • Self-directed education. Advanced coursework in Data Analysis (SkillFactory, Computer Science Center, Mail.ru Group); built foundational neural networks in Python; certified Python Basic (HackerRank) and Data Analysis (CSC).
  • Shippable evidence in parallel. Django + SQLAlchemy web applications; async API integrations with asyncio, aiohttp, and requests; web scrapers with Selenium and BeautifulSoup. Within a year of starting the transition, entered Alar Studios as a Data Engineer.
  • Stack at exit of transition:
    • Languages & Tools: Python, SQL, HTML/CSS, GitHub.
    • Libraries: NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, Django, SQLAlchemy, Aiohttp.
    • Certifications: Python Basic (HackerRank), Data Analysis (CSC).

Foundations
